Recruitment Agency Fees in Thailand
EMPLOYER GUIDE • THAILAND
Understand how recruitment fees are calculated, what the fee actually covers, when employers pay, and how to compare agency proposals beyond the headline percentage
How much do recruitment agencies charge in Thailand?
Based on Smartcruit’s experience in Thailand’s professional recruitment market and published market pricing, professional and specialist recruitment fees commonly fall around 20%–30% of the successful candidate’s annual compensation. Actual rates vary by agency, role seniority, search difficulty, service scope and guarantee terms.
Lower rates can also be found in the market, particularly under different recruitment models, hiring volumes or commercial arrangements, while executive and retained search may charge higher fees or use staged payment structures.
The headline percentage alone does not determine the true recruitment cost. Employers should also compare the calculation basis, payment trigger, service scope and replacement or guarantee terms.

How Are Recruitment Agency Fees Calculated?
A common approach is to calculate the recruitment fee as a percentage of the successful candidate's annual compensation. The contractual definition of annual compensation matters
Annual Compensation x Agreed Recruitment Fee Rate = Recruitment Fee
Illustrative example only
THB 1,200,000 annual compensation x hypothetical 25% rate = THB 300,000
this example does not represent Smartcruit's recruitment fee
What can "annual compensation" include?
Depending on the agreement base salary, fixed allowances, guaranteed compensation or guaranteed bonuses. Employers should check the exact contractual definition before comparing percentages.
What Does a Recruitment Agency Fee Actually Cover?
The fee is not simply payment for receiving a CV. Depending on the agency and service model, recruitment work can span the full hiring process.

Contingency Recruitment
Payment: commonly success-based
Upfront fee: often none
Commitment: placement-driven assignment
Typical use: professional and permanent hiring
Retained Recruitment
Payment: Commonly staged or milestone-based
Upfront fee: typically some financial commitment
Commitment: dedicated search engagement
Typical use: senior, specialist, confidential or complex search
Commercial Questions Employers Commonly Ask
When do employers pay?
Payment timing depends on the recruitment model and agreement. Success-based models may trigger payment at acceptance or start; retained searches may involve staged payments.
Who pays the recruitment fee?
For the employer recruitment services discussed here, the commercial fee is governed by the agreement between the employer and recruitment agency.
Do employers pay if nobody is hired?
Under pure contingency recruitment, generally no placement fee is due if the defined successful outcome is not achieved. Other models may involve earlier payments.
What if the candidate leaves?
The agreement may provide replacement, refund/rebate or another post-placement remedy, subject to its guarantee conditions and exclusions.
Do candidates pay recruitment agency fees in Thailand
Smartcruit does not charge candidates recruitment fees for being introduced to employers or placed in a role. Our recruitment fees are paid by the hiring employer.
Are recruitment agency fees negotiable?
Recruitment fees may vary depending on the role, hiring volume, search difficulty, service scope and commercial agreement. Employers should compare the overall service and guarantee terms, not only the headline percentage.
